HUDDERSFIELD students are promoting safe drinking.

The university's Students Union is backing a national responsible drinking scheme.

The What's In It? campaign has 50 universities taking part in a four-week initiative.

The use of visual aids such as beermats and bottle collars in union bars will help to highlight the importance of being responsible when drinking alcohol.

Ian King, chief executive of NUS Services Ltd, said: "University is often the first time that young people are away from home and exposed to a new-found freedom. The scheme comes after research showed students had a lack of awareness of alcohol units and their effects".

Phil Williams, Huddersfield University's head of public relations, said:

"We are doing everything we can to ensure its success."
