A SAFETY mirror has been put up at an accident blackspot - 20 years after a villager launched a campaign.

Robert Booth has been fighting for safety improvements at a Lepton junction since 1983.

And his tenacity has paid off, with a mirror now being erected to improve sightlines.

Kirklees councillor Mark Hemingway - seen with the mirror - recently backed Mr Booth's campaign.

And he is delighted that the mirror can now help drivers at the junction of Rowley Lane, Highgate Lane and High Green.

"Even by Kirklees Council standards its been a bit slow in coming. But we're delighted to have got there in the end," he said.

Mr Booth, of High Green, said drivers had to inch out into the road before they could gain a clear view.

His wife, who has since died, was hurt in an accident there in 1983 and there have been several other accidents since then.

The council needed to get Department of Transport approval for the mirror and the landowner's permission to put it up.
