SEVEN members of University of Huddersfield staff have returned to the classroom to learn about safety – and passed their exams with flying colours.

The managers and supervisors have all just successfully completed a rigorous National General Certificate in safety and risk management.

They undertook an intensive two-week course, run by The National Exam Board in Occupational Safety and Health, which involved 80 hours of lessons and 49 hours of homework.

At the end of the course, they all had to sit a two-hour written exam, take a two-hour practical test and then write a formal report. To everyone’s relief, they all passed.

The successful seven are:

Sue Clarkson, School of Art Design and Architecture; Vince Byrne, School of Applied Sciences; Alex Heywood, School of Music Humanities and Media; Rod Robertson, School of Education and Professional Development; Linda Etheridge, Barnsley Campus; Jackie Holmes, Office of Health and Safety; and Alison Holmes, Office of Health and Safety.

Deputy-Vice Chancellor Professor Peter Slee presented the studious seven with their hard-earned certificates at a special awards ceremony.
