Dolls have been donated to a care home to assist dementia therapy.

Sainbury’s Brighouse gave the toys to specialist dementia care home Rastrick Grange on Close Lea Avenue, after they were contacted by the care home looking for support for their one-to-one sessions.

Sarah Bamforth, Activity Coordinator at Rastrick Grange, said: “The dolls are used as a form of alternative therapy for those with dementia and they can provide real comfort. They have been very popular.”

There are 39 residents in the Grange side of the home, where the dolls are being used.

Anne-Marie Monday, deputy manager at Rastrick Hall and Grange, said: “It’s our female residents who use them.

“They like to hold the dolls and walk around with them.

“It makes them content and gives them comfort.

“I’m not sure exactly why - perhaps its because they remind them of the dolls they used to have as a child.”

Steve Brown, store manager of Sainsbury’s Brighouse, said: “When we heard that they had a shortage of dolls for their therapy sessions, we made sure that we did what we could to provide them with a helping hand as a thank you for their services to the community.”
