AN OUTSTANDING year of fundraising by a supermarket has led to Kirkwood Hospice bagging £20,000.

Bag packing, a curry night, people taking part in the London Marathon, cake stalls, tombola stalls and a variety of other events had all led to Sainsbury’s being able to hand over the mammoth cheque.

In May last year, the store’s customers in Huddersfield voted for Kirkwood Hospice to be considered to receive a year’s worth of fundraising and support.

Suzanne Barton, a Community Fundraiser from Kirkwood Hospice said: “We’re really grateful for the fantastic efforts of the colleagues and customers. They have really helped to raise the profile of our charity in Huddersfield. Your money really has helped to make a difference to us over the last 12 months.

Store manager Andy Stanbridge added: “Our customers have really helped to support our fundraising during our year’s partnership with Kirkwood Hospice. Your donations have helped to support a local charity that’s close to many people’s hearts in Huddersfield.”
