A GROUP of teenagers made a big entrance at their high school prom by arriving in a horse and carriage.

Andrew Gregory, from Oakes, and his pals attended the Salendine Nook High School leavers’ prom at The Cedar Court Hotel, Ainley Top.

Andrew, 16, said: “It was amazing. We only told a couple of people how we were getting there – we tried to keep it as a surprise.

“Even the head of year said ‘wow’ when we came round the corner.

“They were playing music and loads of people were cheering.”

Andrew and his best friend Zoe Garbutt, who lives down the road from him, thought up the idea of the horse and carriage.

Andrew, who has just taken his GCSEs, said he and Zoe are used to being the centre of attention as they are dance partners and often perform on stage.

He said: “We spend a lot of time together and we thought we didn’t want a limo we wanted something a bit different.

“It was Zoe that called up and got a good deal. You could even choose what colour horses and carriage you wanted.”

Andrew and Zoe’s friends Chanelle Cunningham, Sophie Gilligan and Laura Gledhill also came along for the ride.
