EIGHT staff from Salendine Nook High School will be working up a sweat in the gruelling Great North Run.

The teachers are lacing up their trainers in aid of the Candlelighters charity for children with cancer. PE teacher Jon Smith said : “A few of the team have done some really serious training, they are really keen. We’ve got two outsiders joining us as well to take the number to ten.

“There are a few who perhaps haven’t done everything they should have, but I’m among the ones hoping that rugby training is enough to get me around.

“But we have been doing some decent running.

“Candlelighters is a Yorkshire-based charity in Leeds and everyone thinks it’s a great cause.”
