THE Salvation Army in Huddersfield has again launched an appeal for toys and gifts this Christmas.

The Christmas Present Appeal lasts until December 16, with gifts being accepted at Asda as well as at the Huddersfield branch of Toy Master.

Gifts can be anything from clothes, crayons, books or puzzles, but cannot be second hand and must be unwrapped.

This is the seventh year that the appeal has run in Huddersfield, and last year around 600 presents were donated by people in the area.

These were then passed on through the Salvation Army, local groups, and social services to less privileged families.

Lieut-Colonel Royston Bartlett, the Salvation Army’s Secretary for Communications, said: “Millions of children and young people have benefited from the gifts donated to the Salvation Army over many years.

“By giving a new gift to the Christmas Present Appeal you can make a real difference in someone else’s life at Christmas.”

Major Ernie Huby, the Salvation Army’s Huddersfield commanding officer, joined staff at the Toymaster store in Market Street to launch the appeal.
