A CHOIR with just four boys has topped the table at a music festival.

The Holmfirth Boys Choir won the Rose Bowl for Male Voice Choir at the Penistone Music Festival.

The boys, all aged eight to 11, performed a series of classical and folk songs to win the title.

Tutor Sally Darley said: “I am obviously very proud of them all.

“They love coming to lessons, they love singing and they find it extremely great fun and get excited when they go out to play.

“We would all like a few more members now to join us and share in the enjoyment.”

The boys – dubbed Tups by Mrs Darley – practice at her Holmfirth Singing School every week.

They have won a series of accolades, including second in the children’s choir section at the Haydn Wood Musical Festival in the Colne Valley.

The choir will play at a concert at Penistone Church for the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust on Saturday, December 19 and at a Christmas concert at Upperthong Village Hall the next day.

Four other singers from the school won prizes at Penistone and Holmfirth music festivals – Jessica Whyke, 12, Katie Bates, 13, Abigail Wilkinson, 15, and Shanta Pinnock, 10.
