A WACKY school fundraiser has raised £1,000 for charity.

Last Christmas saw 300 pupils and staff at Colne Valley High don bright red Santa outfits and conga around their school’s sports hall.

Pupils belong to school houses and the conga was the work of Stewart House – named after Mirfield actor Patrick Stewart.

Each house supports a different charity and the British Heart Foundation (BHF) is Stewart’s.

Every pupil was encouraged to raise at least £10 for the charity which funds research, education and life-saving equipment and helps heart patients.

Their merry Santa conga around the school brought in £1,000.

Representatives from Stewart House presented their cheque to Sue Green, BHF fundraising manager for West Yorkshire.

Mrs Green said: “It was a wonderful effort and it’s great a school has adopted a charity like ours.

“We support research into the causes of heart disease and help heart patients and their families.”
