ONE of Huddersfield's first girl Scouts was today receiving an award in the presence of royalty.

Sarah Nuttall, 21, of Linthwaite Scouts, was receiving her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award at St James's Palace, London, in front of the Duke of Edinburgh.

Sarah has previously completed her Duke of Edinburgh bronze and silver awards, the Chief Scout's Award and Queen's Scout Award, as well as receiving a Millennium Volunteers Award.

She has also become a leader with Linthwaite Beavers and helps in the Scout section as well.

Her mother, Linda Nuttall, said: "I'm really proud of her. She's such a positive role model for young people.

"She's achieved so much through hard work and we're all really pleased she's being rewarded."
