BRAVE Bailey Coppack is fighting a brain tumour which could leave her paralysed.

But today the 12-year-old schoolgirl will be able to forget her worries for a while as she leads the Huddersfield Town players onto the pitch at the Galpharm Stadium to the roar of the crowd.

Today’s match against Rochdale has been dedicated to Bailey and all proceeds from the £3 programmes will help pay for her and her family to go to America for specialist proton therapy.

Stepfather Graham Ellis, from Mirfield, is a huge Town fan and organised with club chairman Dean Hoyle for Bailey to be a mascot.

Graham, who runs Ellis Property Services renovating houses around Mirfield and Huddersfield, said: “The club have been excellent with us about Bailey.

“They’ve been unbelievable really. We met them and told them about Bailey’s illness and we just thought they’d be able to donate some signed shirts or something to raffle off.

“But then they said – right – what we’ll do is we’ll dedicate a match to Bailey. We just couldn’t believe it, her mum just burst into tears when she heard.”

Bailey was diagnosed with a brain tumour after suddenly collapsing one day back in 2008.

Doctors have tried twice to operate and remove the tumour – but each time it has grown back.

And because the tumour is wrapped around her brain stem, specialists are worried the usual forms of radiotherapy, accessed in the UK, could paralyse her and stunt Bailey’s ability to learn.

The family are raising cash so they can accompany Bailey to Florida for treatment that’s only available in the USA.

Mum Lisa Coppack, stepfather Graham, 10-year-old sister Ellie Coppack, a Crossley Fields Junior School pupil, and brother Jamie Ellis, two, will accompany her for half of her 12-week treatment.

Bailey’s father Damian Coppack, stepmother Sue Coppack and half brother Willem hope to accompany her for the other half.

Graham said: “Bailey’s really excited about it but I thinks she’s too young to realise the magnitude of it all.

“There’s a lot of people that have been working really hard to fundraise for her.

And there’s loads of Town fans that have been really good and taken it on themselves to organise fundraisers for her.”

This evening at 7.30pm there will be a fundraising event for Bailey at Canalside and Huddersfield Town have donated a signed and framed Ian Bennett shirt to be auctioned off.

Tickets are £10 and can be bought by calling Lisa on 07812 169562.
