A NEW Mill man is taking on a spicy challenge to raise money for an anti-bullying charity.

Gary Wood, 38, plans to break the Guinness World Record for drinking fiery McIlhenny Co's Tabasco sauce.

Mr Wood has to drink 4.2 fl oz of the red hot sauce in 30 seconds to beat the current world record.

The sauce has to be sucked from the bottle through a drip cap - making the time limit an extra challenge.

Mr Wood said: "I think I can do it.

"It probably won't do my ulcer any good, but it's getting done.

"My son gets the Guinness records book every year and he saw this record and said why don't I try it."

Mr Wood plans to perform his challenge at the Galpharm Stadium before the Huddersfield Giants play Leeds Rhinos on May 17.

He and his wife, Rebecca, and their two sons - Joseph, 11, and five-year-old Jacob - are all big fans of the rugby league team.

Mr Wood chose to raise money for Beat Bullying because of problems his eldest son experienced.

He said: "I was reading an article on the charity Beat Bullying featuring Jodie Marsh and I thought I would combine the challenge with raising money for them.

"I'd advise any parent whose child is being bullied to take the complaint to someone outside the situation, like Beat Bullying, and let them sort it out.

"The world record isn't really important to me, but the anti-bullying message is."
