MORE than 100 schools in Kirklees have signed up to a scheme that teaches its youngsters Olympic values.

This is the Get Set education programme – and 29 have gone on to achieve Get Set Network Status.

The network is an organisation that encourages schools to commit to the Olympic values of friendship, excellence and respect and the Paralympic values which are inspiration, determination, courage and equality.

Schools in the Salendine Nook pyramid group have all been accepted as part of the Get Set Network. This includes Lindley Junior School, Lindley Infant School, Moorlands Primary School, Reinwood Infant School and Salendine Nook High School.

Hud-dersfield New College has been supported through the process by Jane Lees. She works across these schools and colleges in her dual role as further education sports co-ordinator at Hud-dersfield New College and enrichment activity facilitator for the Salendine Nook pyramid.

Kirklees Council Cabinet member Clr Jean Calvert said: “It is great that so many of the schools and colleges have signed up already to be involved in the Olympic education programme.

“There are many benefits to joining the countdown to London 2012 and it is important that the schools in Kirklees make the most of the oppor-tunities to inspire their pupils over the next 12 months.”
