A TEENAGER killed in a road accident outside a school gates was a popular student there.

Rehan Saghir, 17, of Gibbet Street in Halifax, died, and a 17-year-old friend was hurt when a Toyota Avensis hit a wall and rolled over on Stoney Lane in Lightcliffe at 12.50pm on Monday.

Hipperholme and Lightcliffe High pupils were returning from their lunchtime break and saw the tragedy happen.

Rehan died at the scene. His passenger is `stable' at Cald- erdale Royal Hospital, Halifax.

Hipperholme and Lightcliffe head teacher Karen Mort said: "Rehan valued his education and regularly devoted himself to his work in our school.

"Such dedication saw him gain an impressive set of GCSE results and we were delighted that he chose to continue his education here.

"All the teachers who taught him speak of his enthusiasm, maturity and friendliness and how it enriched every lesson.

"His popularity among the teaching staff was unquestionable as was his popularity among his peers. We have been left devastated."

Calderdale councillor Mohammed Najib said: "Rehan was a star of the community. He was well known and very friendly. Everybody liked him and his family is absolutely devastated."
