CATERING staff at Highburton First School have won an award.

And they celebrated with a ride in a stretch limo for a meal out.

Head of kitchen Susan Pearson and her only assistant, Heather Mear, have won the Who Cares Wins award from Kirklees Catering Services.

The two-strong team were picked from 92 school catering teams across Kirklees.

They were given the award because of their good budgeting, customer service, team-building skills, quality food, support for healthy eating, the running of special themed days and lunch days for parents.

It is the first time Highburton First School has won the award, although it entered last year.

As a reward for their hard work, the two kitchen staff were taken by limousine to Bagden Hall at Denby Dale for a dinner.

They invited five lunchtime supervisors to accompany them.

Head teacher Roy Hobbs said: "It is brilliant for them. They deserve it because they work so hard."
