FOUR former Holme Valley Grammar School pupils who joined the Navy more than 20 years ago have found themselves working within yards of each other.
The quartet joined the Navy as officers in the mid-70s and early 80s and have served at various places throughout the UK.
But in recent weeks they have come together at Portsmouth Naval Base, serving in different desk jobs.
To celebrate, the four - Capt Ian Beaumont, Capt Steve Greenwood, Cmdr Graham Charlesworth and Lt-Cmdr Phil Dickinson - arranged a lunch at the base wardroom to reminisce about their schooldays.
Capt Beaumont, who arranged the get-together, said: "It is sheer coincidence that we have ended up in Portsmouth at the same time.
"But it seemed a good idea to get together and reminisce about our schooldays under the stewardship of Ronnie Beaumont, Brian Precious and Miss Less in the early 70s," he added.
Capt Beaumont, Cmdr Greenwood and Lt-Cmdr Dickinson have spent most of their careers as aircrew officers, flying Sea King helicopters based at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose in Cornwall.
Cmdr Charlesworth has spent most of his Navy life with the submarine flotilla, based at Plymouth or Faslane in Scotland.
Capt Beaumont added: "All four of us are expected to remain in Portsmouth for the next 12 months before moving to new appointments in the Navy.
"We are also considering paying a return visit to the school."
