A VILLAGE school has delighted education inspectors.

Everything about St John’s C of E Primary School in Clifton, Brighouse, is high quality said Ofsted, which has given it full marks.

The school, in Towngate, was called outstanding – the highest grade possible – after a recent inspection,

A typical parental comment was: “St John’s is a fabulous school where the children are making outstanding progress.

“The staff work extremely hard in order to maintain these excellent standards.

“This is an excellent school, with teachers who have a real passion for what they do.”

The report noted that the children’s behaviour was impeccable and achievement well above the national average.

By the time they leave Year 6 pupils attain exceptionally high standards in English, maths and science.

In 2007 every pupil gained the Government target Level 4 and over 80% attained the higher Level 5.

Inspector Allan Torr emphasised the school’s outstanding teaching and its dynamic and exciting curriculum.

The school’s productive links with the parents, the church and the community were seen as strengths, as were the leadership and management.

Recognition of the very good support and guidance given to the school by the knowledgeable and well-informed governing body was also commended.

Acting head teacher Christine Graham said: “The whole school community is proud of this achievement. Everyone is delighted.’’
