LONG-SERVING lollipop men and women will be rewarded for their dedication at ceremonies at Huddersfield and Dewsbury town halls next week.

Clr David Payne will present patrols with framed certificates and commemorative badges for five, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years' service to school crossing patrols.

He said: "It is a privilege for me to be given the opportunity to present our patrols with their badges and certificates in recognition of their contribution to our communities.

"On behalf of the council and all the parents in Kirklees, I wish to thank all our patrols for their continued commitment to the safety of school children".

There are 121 school crossing patrols currently employed in Kirklees who have more than 800 years experience between them.

Currently the service is looking for more people interested in the safety of children to come forward to be school crossing patrols across the district.

Good road sense and an understanding of children are essential qualities for being a patrol.
