A GRAMMAR school in Huddersfield has raised over £2,500 for various charities.

Huddersfield Grammar School in Marsh has held a number of events and activities to raise money for several charities throughout the year.

These events included a non-uniform day on November 18 to show their support for Children In Need and the Mini-Pots of Care scheme where the children grow and look after their own daffodils in memory of cancer victims and sufferers. They are sponsored as the flowers grow, with the sponsorship money going to the Marie Curie Cancer Trust.

The school has also held a number of cooking events over the last few weeks.

This began on November 18 when the younger pupils made buns, biscuits, and even chocolate Pudsey Bears to sell, with all proceeds going to Children In Need. Some of the older pupils at the school were given the opportunity to take part in a baking masterclass given by Andrew Bradley, owner of Bradley’s restaurant, where they were taught how to make the perfect cupcake.

The pupils were then set the task of making their own cupcakes at home, and selling them in the tuck shop on December 9. The proceeds were again given to Children In Need.

Since September, the school has raised a total of £2,475 for Children In Need and another £280 for Marie Curie. Next year the school is planning even more fundraising for other charities such as Help for Heroes and Sport Relief, as well as selling charity wristbands which are available to buy at the school.
