A ROYAL seal of approval has been given to a Rastrick school for children with complex needs.
The Friends of Highbury School have received a Community Initiative Award from the Duke of York.
The award, presented by Prince Andrew, recognises best practice in community enterprise and leadership.
The school has 40 pupils with complex needs aged between two and 11.
Head teacher Miss Pam Sellers said three years ago the friends had set a target of £100,000 for a new extension at the school and the money had been raised in 18 months. Because of this the school had been encouraged to apply for an award and was among only 21 groups this year to be successful.
She added that the school had started a new fundraiser - its Grounds Project - to improve facilities outside the school for children.
Provident Insurance has given £15,000 towards the project.
