GREENHEAD College has come up with fresh plans for a new sports area on its site.

The sixth-form college has produced the plans after Kirklees Council told it last January to think again about its original scheme.

The Greenhead Road college had originally planned to create a synthetic grass pitch, a hard-surface sports pitch, access ramps and floodlights on land behind its site.

But objections from neighbours and council officials halted the idea.

The college withdrew the plans just before a committee meeting at Huddersfield Town Hall, at which planners were recommending that councillors refuse permission.

The college has now come back with a new plan for the sports area, which it hopes will help local sports teams compete at a national level.

The new plans include a synthetic grass pitch, a hard-surface area for basketball, netball and tennis, floodlights, a four-metre high fence, access ramps, a single-storey changing room block and storage facility.

Previously, the application for the changing block was made separately.

The siting of the block has been changed in the new application and there are plans to screen the site with trees.

Planning officials are still waiting for comments from the public, highways and environmental health departments.

The site is in a conservation area where there are strict controls on development.

The new application will be discussed at a planning committee on January 18.
