PUPILS in Holmfirth have struck gold with their artistic streak.

Wooldale Primary School in Royds Avenue has been awarded an Artsmark gold award for excellence in creative learning.

The national award, handed out by the Arts Council, recognises commitment to traditional art, as well as design, music, dance and drama.

Head teacher Sue Horsley said: "We are very proud of all the hard work the teachers and pupils have done to get this award.

"The arts are something we have always concentrated on.

"We are going to develop and build from here and we are looking to do more work with multi-cultural arts."
