A DEWSBURY schoolboy arrested in an anti-terror police operation has been charged with conspiracy to murder.

The youngster will also face a second serious charge when he appears before Bow Street Magistrates in London today with a 21-year-old Bradford man.

The major police operation began when the 21-year-old was detained at Manchester Airport after flying home from Canada.

Both are charged with conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to cause public nuisance by use of poisons or explosives to cause disruption, fear or injury.

The 21-year-old has also been charged with two offences under the Terrorism Act 2000 of possessing a computer hard drive for a purpose connected with the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism. The Bradford man was arrested a week last Tuesday.

The 16-year-old from Saviletown was detained a day later, moments after finishing a GCSE exam.

Police have searched three houses in Dewsbury and two in Bradford - along with an internet cafe in the city.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "This is a serious and complex investigation. Enquiries will continue into various aspects of the investigation for some time.

"While we are working to conclude the investigation as quickly as possible, the police service has a duty to protect the public and therefore enquiries must be completed thoroughly.

"We would like to thank the public for their continuing co-operation and understanding during the policing operation over the past week.

"The force is aware that investigations of this nature may cause disruption which has to be balanced against the need to act quickly and in proportion to certain information and intelligence.

"Police officers are continuing to meet members of the community in Dewsbury and Bradford."

Dewsbury MP Shahid Malik said the arrested schoolboy's family are "shocked and a bit bewildered".

He added: "The important thing is that the judicial process needs to take its course, people need to stay cool and calm, deal with rumours in a robust manner and continue co-operating as they have been doing in a commendable manner with the police."
