A SCHOOL which has a healthy lifestyle has received an Activemark Gold Award.

The Sport England award is in recognition of the wide range of ``active" activities that Lindley Infants School runs and the children support.

PE co-ordinator Mrs Beverley Maycock said: "The children are quite thrilled about it, because really it's all down to them."

The school runs after-hours fitness clubs, lunchtime activities, healthy eating weeks and walk to school weeks, among other events. It can keep the award for three years, when it will be assessed again.

Sport England's acting chief executive, Roger Draper, said: "We are finding more and more of our young people are becoming overweight, as a result of their diet and a sedentary lifestyle.

"We need to re-emphasise the benefits of sport and physical activity to children and young people through positive first experiences at school."
