COLNE Valley MP Kali Mountford has praised schools in her constituency for their success in performance league tables.

Tables judging the achievements of schools across the UK were published recently.

All five of the Colne Valley constituency's secondary schools finished within the top 10 best performing schools in Kirklees.

Holmfirth High School was third-best in Kirklees, with 71% of students getting GCSE A* to C grades.

Salendine Nook High School was sixth, with 58%. Moor End Technology College, in Crosland Moor, was seventh, with 57%.

Ms Mountford was particularly pleased with the college because it has raised this pass rate from 36% the previous year.

Colne Valley High School, in Linthwaite, was in eighth place, with 53%.

Honley High School finished lowest of the five Colne Valley schools, in ninth place, with 52%.

Ms Mountford said: " The results are a credit to the staff and pupils, who clearly are making good use of Government resources."
