TWO schools in Outlane are to merge to create the biggest primary school in Kirklees.

The merger of Outlane Infant School and Outlane Junior, who share a site in Moorlands Road, has been given the thumbs up from Kirklees Council bosses and now just needs the seal of approval from councillors.

The new school will be called Outlane Primary School and will teach more than 600 youngsters.

Consultation was launched in autumn last year and during that time the governing bodies of both schools met and agreed the plans.

In a report to go before councillors Margaret Parker, assistant director for strategy and school support service, says: "During the six week notice period no objections or comments were received on the proposal. The matter therefore is not referred to the School Organisation Committee for a decision on whether or not to proceed.

"It is recommended that members approve the proposal to amalgamate Outlane Infant School and Outlane Junior School."

A final decision will be made by councillors on the Cabinet Committee for Education and People Services at the Town Hall on April 6.
