TEN schools in Huddersfield have so far signed up to take part in a charity world record attempt at singing.

Their goal is to break the records for the most people signing and the most people singing simultaneously.

They are taking part in support of the charity SignHealth on February 6.

Steve Powell, chief executive at SignHealth, the national healthcare charity for deaf people, said the current world record had been set by the charity at its 2012 event.

He said: “Earlier this year 114,277 children took part in SignHealth’s sign2sing event, including pupils from Huddersfield, and smashed the world record.

“The previous record was 94,489.

“Money will be raised for the charity through a suggested £1 donation from everyone taking part,” said Mr Powell.

The money will be used to help improve the mental and physical health and well-being of deaf people.
