SAFETY definitely comes first for Scooby Doo.

The TV character is now the official mascot of The Forget Me Not Trust.

And he and fellow charity fundraisers have just accepted £1,500 from gas supply company National Grid Transco.

The company's Safety Challenge has been running since 1999 and so far has raised more than £2.5m for local charities.

The Forget Me Not Trust is raising money to build a children's hospice serving Huddersfield and Halifax.

NGT has a scheme that encourages employees to spot safety hazards at work. The money saved from sickness and faults is then given to a charity of the employee's choice.

Network operation manager Tim Dawson nominated the charity.

He said: "This is a really worthwhile project."

Plans to build a specially designed children's hospice for terminally ill or special medical needs children will cost the charity £4m.

Senior fundraiser Mandy Barwick said: "We are thankful to all the people at National Grid Transco who have taken us into their hearts."
