A GLITTERING awards evening was held to celebrate a successful centenary for West Yorkshire Scouts.

More than 200 Scouts from Huddersfield, Halifax, Dewsbury and Bradford flocked to the event at Huddersfield Town Hall and were presented with accolades by Huddersfield Town defender David Mirfin.

The Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Explorer Scouts, aged from five to 17, were set challenges to complete throughout their celebrations last year to commemorate the founding of the movement in 1907 by Robert Baden-Powell.

Some of the challenges achieved included camping under a canvas for two nights, learning how to swim and developing IT skills to give a presentation of the year’s events.

The Chief Scout’s Award, previously only for the 10-14 group, was held for the first time for all sections to mark the special year.

The Town Hall was packed with 800 proud family and friends who came to see their sons, daughters, friends and neighbours individually presented with their awards by Mr Mirfin and West Yorkshire Scout County Commissioner Peter Duncan.
