NURSERY products firm Mamas and Papas is set to launch its 12th annual Midwife of the Year Awards.

The Colnebridge-based firm chose Valentine’s Day to open nominations after figures showed more babies are born in February than at any other time of the year.

Mums and dads can nominate before the closing date of August 17. Every year, thousands write accounts of how lives were saved, needs were met and how a midwife went beyond the call of duty to give them the support they needed.

Nominations are judged by a panel of expert midwives throughout August ready for an emotional gala luncheon in October.

Nomination forms can be found at Mamas and Papas stores and on the company’s website, at selected independent nursery stores and in issues of Prima baby magazine from March.

The winner of the award last year was Jan Sanders, of Southport’s Linnekar Children’s Centre, who received her award from Saira Khan of TV’s The Apprentice.
