LOCAL TEENAGERS are being invited to display their creative skills in a competition designed to find North Kirklees’ newest artistic talent.

The competition, which is open to all 13-19 year olds who live in Dewsbury, Mirfield, Batley, Heckmondwike, Cleckheaton and other parts of North Kirklees. The theme of the competition is called “My Town”.

The competition features two categories – 13 to 16-year-olds and 17 to 19 year olds, the work, however must only be a painting or sketch. Beyond those guidelines, the participators can use whatever materials they wish to.

Each category has a 1st prize of £70 and a 2nd prize of £30. All entries are to be shown in a five week exhibition at Dewbury’s new Aqua Gallery based in the Qui Adoro complex on Northgate.

The exhibition shall run from October 24 to December 1.

The competition is being organised by the newly formed QA Arts & Performance Group, also based in Qui Adoro. The group are highly dedicated to supporting all creative ventures in North Kirklees.

Jean Hadley, the group secretary said: “This is the first of what will be a series of exciting annual competitions to find the best creative talent in the area.”
