THE hunt for a runaway sex offender has switched to London.

John McDermott, 45, vanished from a Wakefield hostel after he was released from prison on parole.

He was last seen in Wakefield at 8am on Friday.

A nationwide appeal for information was put out when it was realised he was missing.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said today: "Inquiries have revealed that he could have been at Victoria Coach Station in London at 8am yesterday. We believe he is still in the London area."

Police say McDermott is a dangerous sex offender, especially to young children.

He is white, 5ft 6in tall and weighs about 18 stones. He has a shaved head and wears glasses.

When last seen he was wearing a green bomber jacket, black jogging bottoms, a black and orange T-shirt and black and white trainers.
