We have been receiving reports of a second bus crashing in Marsh after a smilar incident of a bus collision on Northumberland Street in the town centre.

An eyewitness called the Examiner shortly after midday to say a double decker bus on the street had been evacuated and police and fire services were at the scene.

Police confirmed they were called to the scene shortly after 12pm. One woman has been taken to hospital.

Later a bus crashed into Marsh Cars on Westbourne Road. The driver has been taken to hospital.

Arriva statement on Northumberland Street crash

Jon Croxford, area managing director for Arriva Yorkshire said; “We can confirm that an Arriva bus, operating on service 220 towards Huddersfield has been involved in an incident today on Northumberland Street.

“We can confirm one passenger was injured and we are investigating further to find out the cause of this incident.”

Huddersfield Fire Station Watch Commander Robin Ferguson has described how his crew members dealt with the crash just hours after a similar incident in the town centre.

Kebab shop worked helped passengers off the bus after rushing to scene

A man who works in a next door takeaway has told how he heard the crash and prised opened the doors to help people out.

The man, who did not want to give a name, said:

“I heard a loud crash and a child screaming. I rushed outside because initially I thought a child had been run over.

“We saw the bus swerve into the wall. We opened the the doors and tried to get everyone out. The bus driver had blood all over his head. Then we called an ambulance.”

“We can confirm that an incident has occurred involving one of our vehicles in Huddersfield. We have a team on the scene investigating and supporting staff and customers.”

Taxi company say "it felt like an earthquake"

Sajid Bashir, operator at Marsh Cars, said he was in the front of the tax office when the crash happened.

“I was working in the office when the bus crashed into the wall outside,” he said. “I felt the impact. It felt like an earthquake.

“One of the drivers was sitting in the office next to me and saw the wall coming towards him. He ran out of the office.” Mr Bashir said the bus crash had damaged a gas pipe, although the business was continuing to operate.

Bus driver injured in collision

The bus driver has been injured - another eyewitness describes how he saw the driver “passed out”.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police says:

“We were called at 2.16 to reports of a road traffic collision involving a bus and a building.

“The bus driver was slightly injured - it’s thought to be only minor injuries. The road is closed on Westbourne Road and surrounding roads while this incident is ongoing. We’d advise people to avoid the area while we deal with the incident.”

Eyewitness says bus "careered across road"

Eye-witness Adam Hall said the smash looked as though it had caused a huge amount of damage.

He said he did not see the actual crash but the aftermath looked very serious and it looked as though it had hit Marsh Cars. Adam added:

“The double decker looks as though it has just careered across the road and into the taxi building. There is a huge amount of damage. I saw one man walking from the bus bleeding from a head injury. I think the air ambulance is on the way.”

Westbourne Road closed

Reporter Louise Cooper is at the scene - she has informed us that this area of Westbourne Road is currently closed while emergencies deal with the incident.

Bus has crashed into taxi firm with reports of gas leak

The building the bus has crashed into is Marsh Cars taxi company on Westbourne Road.

An eyewitness has said there is a possible gas leak at the building so please do avoid the area.

Buses are delayed

Second bus crashes into shop in Marsh

We are hearing reports of a separate incident of a bus crashing into a building in Marsh.

Nope, we’re not kidding. An eyewitness claims a bus has collided into a shop near to the Shell Garage on Westbourne Road (near the ambulance station).

Emergency services have been alerted and are on their way.

Council requested to clean up scene

Police have also confirmed that Kirklees Council have been requested to help in the recovery of the bus.

Officers are no longer at the scene.

Police confirm passenger taken to hospital

Here is an up to date police statement:

“We were called at 12.08 to reports of a road traffic collision on Northumberland Street. A bus was reported to have collided with a building.

“One passenger has been taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. Their injuries are not believed to be serious.”

Elderly bus passenger "showered with glass"

Firefighters are at the scene where they have had to cut the doors off the bus, which has ploughed into some railings. Commander Robin Ferguson said:

“11 people were on the bus including a 67 year old woman who was sat next to the door - she was showered with glass and bits of railings.

“She’s been taken to hospital for a check up. We had to chop the doors off as they were inoperable. Nobody else needed medical attention but some people may be suffering from whiplash.”

Police are investigating and are looking at video from the bus security cameras and local CCTV.

Looks like the bus was travelling into the town centre from the ring road.

Street is open to pedestrians

Just to clarify - the bus has not been evacuated as previously mentioned.

This is purely a road traffic collision. We’re also being informed that Northumberland Street is open to pedestrians, but not to motorists while the bus is recovered.
