SECURITY at a derelict school has been boosted after vandals targeted it.

The Examiner reported earlier this week that hundreds of pounds of damage was caused to Stile Common Infant School last weekend.

Three hooded men smashed windows and one tried to break into the school’s main door.

Kirklees Council say they are now monitoring the situation to prevent further incidents.

A spokesman said: “The building has been inspected this week and we will continue to monitor the situation in case of security breaches. Security and alarm systems are in place, access gates have been secured and we have carried out lower level boarding of windows and doors.”

The incident happened at 6pm on Easter Sunday at the Plane Street school building.

Children left the infant and junior schools last November and moved into the new £7.4m Hillside Primary School.

The junior school has already been demolished but the infant school building remains boarded up – leaving it a target for vandals.
