A CHURCH in Mirfield is forging ahead with plans for improvements after the sale of its parish rooms fetched more than double the asking price.

The Church of Christ the King, Battyeford is to get a new roof and heating system following the auction.

The two-storey detached parish rooms in Stocksbank Road were sold for £240,000 - more than doubling the guide price of £100,000.

It was sold with planning permission for change of use to a home.

The vicar Canon Roy Clements said the decision to sell the parish rooms was a difficult one but would herald a new future for the church, which was built in 1973.

The church council had outlined several projects which the sale would fund, he said.

New toilets for disabled people and better kitchen facilities were all being planned along with other smaller improvements.
