A CALL for Huddersfield to honour its D-Day veterans has drawn a massive response, the town's MP said today.

But Barry Sheerman said all the places for a tribute lunch to be held on Sunday at the town centre George Hotel were now taken.

"It is full to capacity," he said. "The George can accommodate 60 people for the event - and we have exceeded that figure. We have managed to increase it to 72, but some people will be disappointed.

"Regrettably, we cannot take any more."

Mr Sheerman had urged people to attend the lunch and bring along a D-Day survivor after hearing that no official event had been laid on in the town to mark the 60th anniversary of the Normandy Landings.
