Historic Durker Roods Hotel has a new owner.
The former home of industrialist Sir David Brown has been bought by Harimoor Hospitality for a seven-figure sum.
The Meltham hotel is the second acquisition for Sheffield-based Harimoor following its purchase of the 52-bedroom Welcome Inn at Rotherham.
Durker Roods employs about 20 staff who will be retained by the new owner.
Jay Patel, an experienced hotelier and director of Harimoor Hospitality, said he was delighted with the acquisition of Durker Roods.
“This is an excellent addition to our hotel portfolio alongside The Welcome Inn in Rotherham and we will retain current staff to ensure the smooth running of the hotel.”
Mr Patel said: “This is an exciting time for our family as we acquire our second hotel and we are looking forward to welcoming new and existing customers to the hotel.”
Funding to support the purchase has been provided by the Royal Bank of Scotland.
Nick Milner, senior relationship manager at the bank, said: “Jay Patel and his family have a great track record of success as seen with their ownership of the Welcome Inn in Rotherham.
“They will be extending their expertise into the running of the Durker Roods Hotel in Meltham and we are very pleased to help them expand their business operations.”
Durker Roods, which has 29 bedrooms as well as a banqueting suite, lounge bar and meeting rooms as well as extensive laws, formal gardens and car parking, has undergone significant refurbishment in recent months. The work has included upgrading bedrooms and redecorating the main function room.
Built in 1870 as a gentleman’s residence, it was converted into a hotel in the 1970s after being the family home of Sir David Brown, best-known for his gears and tractors businesses as well as being a one-time owner of iconic car marque Aston Martin.
