A CAR driver and several bus passengers were injured in a crash on a busy Huddersfield road.

The single decker First bus was in collision with a Volkswagen Polo on Lowergate, Paddock, just after 2pm today.

Police said that a number of passengers on the bus suffered slight injuries as they were thrown forward as the bus came to a halt.

A man who was driving the Polo was also slightly hurt.

Ambulance service paramedics gave first aid to several people at the scene.

The road was blocked as the emergency services attended the scene.

Sammie Boustead, who lives nearby, said: "We heard a really loud bang and ran to the window. I ran out to make sure everyone was okay."

She said a woman in her 60s or 70s appeared to have injured her nose after being thrown from her seat.

A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesman said two people on the bus were taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. One had facial injuries, the other was suffering from neck pain.

The car driver was treated at the scene for a minor head injury.
