A sex assault has been reported at a Huddersfield leisure centre.

More has been revealed by police about the “sensitive” incident, after news that a man was arrested at the Stadium Health and Fitness Club next to the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.

Officers went to the Kirklees Active Leisure site at just before 8am on Saturday regarding an alleged sexual assault upon a woman at the premises.

They arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of committing a serious sexual offence.

He was then interviewed and has been released on bail pending continuing police enquiries.

The victim continues to be supported by specially-trained officers.

An appeal for witnesses to the incident has been made.

Det Sgt Kelvin Lecomber, of the Kirklees Adult Safeguarding Unit, said: “Police are continuing to investigate this incident at the leisure centre and I would appeal to any witnesses, or anyone who has information to contact the Kirklees Adult Safeguarding Unit on 101 referencing crime number 13160173240.

“Information can also be given to the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.”
