A DANGEROUS sex offender who went on the run from a West Yorkshire hostel has been arrested.

Forty-year-old Craig Preece was spotted by a member of the public in Colne, Lancashire, yesterday lunchtime and was detained by police.

He vanished from a hostel in Wakefield at 10pm on Friday and is then thought to have got a taxi from the city to Leeds railway station.

He was known to have links with Lancashire.

Preece, who walks with a limp due to a back injury, was taken to Burnley police station after his arrest.

The convicted sex offender was out of jail on licence, which was revoked when he went missing.

He is regarded as a particular danger to young boys.

Det Insp Steve Harrison, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "We would genuinely like to thank the media for all the help they've given us to bring this to a successful conclusion.

"I would also like to thank all the members of the public who took the time to ring in with information. We are very grateful for their assistance."
