A CHARITY has issued a firm warning after another big increase in HIV infections.
Figures from the Health Protection Agency revealed 485 new HIV diagnoses in Yorkshire and Humberside last year.
And the agency estimates one third of people with HIV do not know they have the virus.
Now David Greenway, the Yorkshire manager for sexual health charity the Terence Higgins Trust, said: "We can prevent new infections by hammering home those safer sex messages to people most at risk.
"Use a condom and get tested if you think you've been at risk of infection.
"Diagnosing the third of people with HIV who don't know they have it is vital to prevent transmission and untimely deaths.
"To bring these numbers down we must make it easier and faster to get tested for sexually transmitted infections."
