MORE than 400 people from all sections of the community attended the Hanfia Educational Institute and Mosque, on Bentley Street in Lockwood, to enjoy a performance from renowned Islamic Sufi Musical Nashid group Shaam.
The performance was to mark Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting and to celebrate the festival of Eid.
Shaam are from Birmingham and regularly tours across Europe. They have also appeared on Islamic TV channels on satellite and cable networks.
After the performance, free food was served to local people, and there were activities for families in the Lockwood community.
The event was supported by Kirklees Council’s Safer Stronger Communities service.
Mohammed Imran, general secretary of the Bentley Street Mosque said;
“The Hanfia Institute’s aim was to help break down barriers, dispel a ‘fear of the unseen’ and to do some myth busting around the Islamic faith.”
