A COUPLE celebrating their golden wedding will return to the place they spent their honeymoon.

Betty and Derek Sharples, of Kirkheaton, met at a town hall dance on Christmas Eve in 1955 and married at Lindley Parish Church on March 21, 1959.

They will celebrate their 50th anniversary by spending a weekend in London.

The couple have a daughter Jill and granddaughter Emma.

Mr Sharples is the vice-chairman of Lindley Amateur Operatic Society, a member of Ravensknowle veteran bowlers and is a bell ringer at Kirkheaton Parish Church.

He was a draughtsman for WC Holmes, Turnbridge, before training as a teacher.

Mrs Sharples is a member of the Kirkheaton Cricket and Bowling Club and a member of Kirkheaton WI.

She was a secretary and worked for HSBC.
