Forget painting the town red.

One Huddersfield vocal sensation has been busy painting the country scarlet as she tours the UK with her West End smash hit show.

Scarlet Gabriel, originally from Sheepridge, has landed the lead role in Motown sell-out Dancing In The Streets.

After wowing theatre directors with her vocals, starlet Scarlet is now wowing audiences with her performance in the show, an on-stage celebration of Motown’s greatest hits.

The 28-year-old plays Motown legend Martha Reeves, of Martha and the Vandellas.

But she’s no stranger to the stage. The show is the latest string to Scarlet’s bow, having previously starred in the Cromer Pier Show alongside Britain’s Got Talent 2013 finalist, ventriloquist Steve Hewlett.

Scarlet, who stays close to her Huddersfield roots and visits family regularly, says “performance changed my life”.

After attending the performing arts school the Sylvia Young Theatre School, Scarlet went on to set up ScarletWorkshops in 2012.

The classes work with people aged 14 to 25 from unprivileged backgrounds to help them hone their performance skills.

She said: “Personal circumstances shouldn’t prove a barrier to success for anyone.

“ScarletWorkshops provides a place for young people to develop character, build confidence and ‘rehearse’ for the real world.

“Developing the life skills and stage skills workshops is my way of paying the opportunities I had forward”.
