SHELLEY Community Association has worked wonders in recent years and now, it's official.

The village is firmly on the map having won the Calor Yorkshire Village of the Year title.

And doubtless part of the success in winning the award which recognises work in the community, is the growth in the use of Shelley's village hall as a community venue.

The last concert there, by guitar duo Robin Hill and Peter Wiltschinsky was a virtual sell out. Little wonder then that the association is keen to shout about its plans for the new season.

First off, and at a cracking pace, are Marsden-based Mikron Theatre Company.

This long-established company usually travels by narrowboat, but is due to hit the road for its autumn tour.

Its repertoire includes a play called, Pedal Power written and directed by Richard Povall.

The story is set on the last day of a Manchester cycle shop but in true Mikron style bursts from the shop to freewheel through the history of cycling and of the National Clarion Cycling club which used pedal power to offer companionship, fresh air and a way of spreading the socialist message.

The show has been going down well nationwide as Mikron has toured the country's waterways all summer.

Now you can see this brand new show on home ground at a number of local venues including Shelley on September 30 at 7.30pm.

Richard Povall was last seen at Shelley Village Hall in his one-man show, Our Victor based on the life (and disappearance) of the Colne Valley MP Victor Grayson.

Tickets for Pedal Power from Shelley Stores or the Post Office in the village or call 01484 604486.
