YOUNGSTERS have seen how plastic bottle tops can be transformed into a picnic table.
Pupils from Shelley First School collected 50,000 bottle tops which Halifax-based recycler Intruplas then shaped into a piece of furniture.
The picnic table was unveiled last Friday.
Teacher Lisa Conlon, who organised the project, said: “The children took to this challenge with great enthusiasm and the real bonus was seeing the benefit of all their efforts. The picnic table is a wonderful addition to the school garden.”
Year 1 pupil Isabella Thomas said: “I think it is important to recycle because it is a waste of materials and money if you don’t and we have to look after our planet.”
Intruplas processes 60 tonnes of mixed plastic waste every week.
