DYNAMIC dads raised thousands of pounds for a children’s hospice charity after a gruelling Coast to Coast to challenge.

Paul Carr, Chris Hulse, Johnny Longdon, Garry Kerr, Steve Hudson and James Ward peddled 140 miles for the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust.

It took them three days to ride from Whitehaven to Sunderland, inspired by their children who are all in the same class at Shepley First School.

Their sons and daughters handed over the cheque to Gina Fielding from the Trust at a school assembly.

Paul said: “We are all very lucky that we have healthy children and we felt very strongly that the charity we rode for was a local charity and that it would benefit local people, which is why we chose Forget Me Not.

“At the assembly we talked about our experiences on the Coast to Coast challenge and Gina talked about what the charity did.

“The ride was good fun, it was more like a holiday actually.

“We carried most of our stuff with us and we had a few beers on the evening together.

“At the end we met up with our wives and had a nice dinner all 12 of us.”

If the 140 mile bike ride wasn’t enough, the following weekend Paul pounded the streets of the capital in the London Marathon.

In total the dads raised £4,000 for the new hospice to be built in Brackenhall.

The hospice will provide specialist services for children from Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield, and needs £3.1million for completion.
