A CHAMPION backgammon player has regained her crown.

Rachel Rhodes, 42, of Hebden Bridge, has won the British Championship, in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

She also took the trophy home in 2000, but now she has her sights set on the World Championship in Monte Carlo in July.

Rachel, who works for Elland-based Suma Whole Foods, said: "I was delighted to win in Hinckley.

"I have been playing backgammon since I was a child, but did not really start taking it seriously until I was in my late teens.

"The quality of players has got a lot better in the last few years, because people have been able to play against new computer programmes.

"Backgammon is a game that is easy to learn and play at a basic level, but you never stop learning."
