The “inspirational” headteacher of a Huddersfield school has died suddenly.
Mrs Shirley Norris, who had been headteacher at Moldgreen Community Primary School, passed away after suffering a short illness.
It has left staff and pupils at the school devastated.
In a letter to parents chair of governors Kelly Starkey said: “Mrs Norris had been away from school for the last few weeks while undergoing treatment. She was an inspiration to countless children as well as staff members throughout her career. Her death has come as a great shock to us all.
“Mrs Norris was greatly respected and loved within our school community and her loss will be felt by everyone. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs Norris’ family at this incredibly difficult time.”
“A class assembly was held to tell the children about Mrs Norris passing away. I would like to reassure you that fully trained staff are available in school for any children who would like support. Naturally this is a very difficult time for all of us and the welfare of the children is our highest priority.”
The funeral date has not yet been announced but the school has already said it will be closed on that day.
